A Minimalist Dwelling in the Heart of the City
Originally a two-bedroom apartment, the space now unfolds as a serene one-bedroom retreat connected to a walk-in closet and private bath. Other areas open generously into a kitchen, a communal living space, and a play zone for children.
Two visual axes compose the spatial narrative: one extending from the entrance toward the balcony, the other drawing the gaze from the kitchen down the hallway to the bedroom. These sightlines stretch and amplify the dimensions of the home.
At the heart of the home, a cantilevered kitchen island serves as a functional surface. This and the built-in dining bench, cabinetry, and table define functionality through the simplicity of form.
A concealed television, tucked into a sliding niche, allows the living space to remain adaptable, and be cleared-out for a child’s exploratory movement.
From another angle, floor-to-ceiling sliding doors together with hidden ones accentuate the dimension of space. The axis culminates at a vanity table, featuring a pivoting mirror with shelving behind.
Throughout both axes, materials are kept within a neutral palette, letting their textures and natural tones come through: rough-cut veneer on cabinetry, carved timber drawers, red travertine set against beige limestone, square bluestone tiles, handmade ceramics in white and brown, and wide-plank dark timber flooring. Mirrors appear in understated locations - beneath wardrobes, inside compartments, and along an entry panel - subtly expanding the space and adding a rhythmic visual layer.
A continuous timber floor anchors the interior, allowing a curated selection of furniture and objects to stand out. Each item, whether a child’s toy or a dining chair, reflects considered choices without excess.
Lighting is deliberately subdued, with minimal ceiling and decorative fixtures, preserving the purity of form. The resulting environment is one of calm clarity - a space that feels both personal and expansive.
